The Roxy Social Sipper

Members Rachel and Stephen Woodall reflect on the recent social sipper highlighting The Roxy downtown and its unique vibe.

Lexington Bourbon Society hosted its May Social Sipper at the new and upcoming cocktail bar, The Roxy. Located on Main Street next to Fifth Third Pavilion, our group had a chance to meet up, share a few tastings, and enjoy the venue's atmosphere. The location felt like we were going back in time. And upon entering, we were immediately transported back to the days of prohibition. With its huge potential for downtown nightlife, The Roxy is fun, fresh, and ready to grow.

So, is it the Roxy or QP? Well...in the spirit of a speakeasy, the owners have established it as QP (for quiet please) with the outward appearance of an movie theater. However, this place is anything but quiet as a full bar and nightclub location inside the building.

Some architectural highlights included mosaic floors, iron work upstairs, and a decent overlook to the main floor. They also had a small stage and projector to host potential viewing parties and gatherings. This definitely is a venue for groups to enjoy in the near future.

As for the sipping event, we were treated three different Willett pours, along with an Angel's Envy Old Fashioned. The Willett selections did not disappoint, and the Old Fashioned was balanced without being overly sweet. You could say that the cocktail was renamed to an "Old Fashioned Angel" for the duration of the event.

It was all-in-all a great get-together for us to kick off the summer. Thanks again to the staff at The Roxy for hosting us for the evening.

For Lexington Bourbon Society, our board continues to highlight local venues, providing many more events for us to enjoy in the Bluegrass. Stay tuned for announcements and more soon to come.
