SOLD OUT: Bottled in Bond Day Tasting - Members Only

On March 3rd, 1897, Congress passed the Bottled in Bond Act. It was a hard-won victory that gave honest-to-goodness whiskey an indisputable mark of authenticity.

To be labeled Bottled in Bond, whiskey must be:

  • The product of one distillation season, from either January to June or July to December.
  • Aged in a warehouse for at least four years.
  • Bottled at 100 proof (U.S.)
  • Include the distillery at which it was made and bottled on the label.

One man led the way for this new legislation, Colonel E.H. Taylor., and whiskey has never been the same!

So, join us for this member-only event as Kris Comstock from Buffalo Trace Distillery talks to us about Colonel E.H. Taylor, Bottled-in-Bond, and more while we enjoy some of the E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond expressions.

For Our Friends At Flame Run - Members Only

Hi all, we hope this finds you healthy and in good spirits!

MEMBERS ONLY

If you already know, then you totally get it!
If you don’t already know, then it is our pleasure to introduce you!

Beginning in 2015, we started taking “field-trips” a couple times a year to 815 W. Market St. in Louisville to create custom, one-of-a-kind functional pieces of art. One at a time, we accompanied a very talented artists (thank you Centre College) down the stairs into the Hotshop to begin creation. Having selected colors and discussed design with the artist, we got busy. Once the artist has collected just the right amount of 2100° F molten glass, we began to blow air into the glass through a tube at the precise force instructed by the artist. At this point, we sat back and let the artistry commence. After 30 minutes or so, the piece went into the 800° F cooling oven, and after a day or two the glass was ready for use, admiration, and prideful show-and-tell.

We would love to send you and a couple of friends to the studio once they re-open to create your own whisk(e)y glass (or even wine glass or ornament)I

We have a $200 gift certificate ready to send to someone reading this. That someone will be determined via live raffle drawing here on our page Sunday, April 26 at 6 PM EST. To enter send multiples of $10 (1 entry = $10, 2 for $20, etc) directly to the Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery folks via PayPal. Entries will be accepted until 5 PM EST Sunday. At which time, we will alpha-sort all entries by first name, paste that list into random.org, randomize the list 5 times, and the entry in the #1 spot after the 5th spin will be emailed the $200 gift certificate. Feel free to share far and wide! Thank you in advance for helping these fine folks, and good luck in the drawing!!!

LBS Trivia Night via Zoom - Members Only

TEAM TRIVIA NIGHT – Form a Quaranteam with those in your household or pair up with someone else via cell phone or something.

BUT, don’t look up the answers online (we could all do that), don’t shout out answers to the group. Put your brain to use and see if you have any working cells left after bourbon and boredom!

This will NOT be bourbon trivia, but general trivia. I will throw in a couple of bourbon questions, here and there.

If you’ve played at any of the area bars, the game will be like that. Except… Keep your own score. Honor system scoring. 90 seconds to answer each question.

Download a Score Sheet with the Rules from our Files. Ask questions, in advance, if you’ve got ’em.

LBS Cocktail Hour - Members Only

In lieu of our monthly Distiller’s Series we are going to have our first ever LBS Virtual Cocktail Hour tomorrow, March 15th from 8:00-9:30 p.m.! We are pleased to announced that Iverson Griffon, Head Bartender at OBC Kitchen will be teaching us how to make two different bourbon cocktails. There will also be a Q&A session where you can ask questions, discuss variations, and anything else you might have interest in.

Below you will find the two cocktails we will be mixing, along with a shopping list.

**********

Date: Friday, March 15th
Time: 8:00 – 9:30 p.m.
Zoom: LBS COCKTAIL HOUR

Please note: Each recipe makes one cocktail

Vanilla Whiskey Sour
1.5 oz Woodford (Or other high rye bourbon)
1 oz Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Brown Sugar Syrup
1 egg white

Coffee Old Fashioned
2 oz Knob Creek (or any 100 proof bourbon. Preferably Beam due to it’s nutty flavor)
0.5 oz Brown Sugar Syrup
0.5 oz Cold Brew Coffee (Or strong chilled coffee)
Angostura Bitters
Black Walnut Bitters
Lemon peal (garnish)

Brown Sugar Syrup
4 cups Brown Sugar
2 cups Water
3 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 tsp Kosher Salt
1 oz Vodka

Combine all ingredients except for vodka in a pot, add heat and bring to simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add vodka, and let cool. Keep refrigerated.

This needs to be ready before the Cocktail hour so you aren’t adding hot syrup to your cold cocktail.

*The brown sugar syrup recipe can be reduced down for a smaller batch. Just make sure to keep your proportions correct.

Shopping List:
Brown Sugar
Vanilla extract
Lemon (1 / whiskey sour)
Eggs (1 egg white / whiskey sour)
Cold Brew Coffee (Strong coffee that is chilled will do)
Angostura bitters
Black Walnut bitters
100 proof bourbon
High Rye bourbon (These can be the same or different)
